Tools of the Trade: Mark de Grasse’s AI-Tech Stack for Branding & Business Development
After 20 years in marketing and content development, and three years of intensive work with AI, I’ve learned that choosing the right tools isn’t about chasing the latest trends – it’s about finding reliable platforms that deliver consistent results.
Let me share the tools I’ve personally vetted and rely on daily to build powerful brands in the AI age.
Why I Choose These Specific Tools
Having watched countless marketing tools come and go throughout my career, I’ve developed a simple philosophy: invest in platforms that have staying power.
Think of it like building a long-term investment portfolio – you want blue-chip stocks, not penny stocks. Each tool I use has proven itself through real-world application in my marketing projects and brand development work.
Strategic and Content Development Tools
ChatGPT
I started using ChatGPT during its early beta, and it’s become indispensable for my strategy work. What impresses me most is its ability to help rapidly iterate ideas. I use it daily for everything from initial campaign concepts to fine-tuning messaging. While many chase newer alternatives, I’ve found ChatGPT’s reliability and consistent improvements make it my go-to tool for quick strategic thinking.
Claude.ai
After testing numerous AI assistants, Claude has become my secret weapon for long-form content. Its ability to maintain consistent tone and style throughout extended documents is unmatched. I particularly rely on it when developing comprehensive brand guidelines or detailed marketing strategies where nuance and consistency are crucial.
Descript
As someone who’s spent countless hours editing video content, discovering Descript was a game-changer. I use it to transform long-form video content into multiple smaller pieces for social media. Its text-based editing approach aligns perfectly with how I think about content repurposing.
Visual Creation Tools
Midjourney
After experimenting with every major AI image generator, I’ve settled on Midjourney as my primary tool for brand imagery. While its Discord-based interface isn’t ideal, the quality and consistency of its outputs make it worth the extra effort. I’ve used it to create everything from brand mood boards to social media visuals.
RunwayML & HeyGen
These two tools complement each other perfectly in my video workflow. I use RunwayML for creative video effects and HeyGen for AI-powered presentations. The combination has dramatically reduced my video production time while maintaining professional quality.
Canva
Despite its simplicity, Canva remains one of my most-used tools. Its ability to maintain brand consistency across all marketing materials while being incredibly user-friendly makes it invaluable for both my own work and when collaborating with clients.
Research and Analysis Tools
Perplexity & Elicit
I discovered this powerful combination while researching market trends for clients. Perplexity gives me quick, current insights, while Elicit helps me dive deep into academic research when I need to validate marketing strategies with solid data.
Browse AI
I initially skeptical about automated data collection tools, but Browse AI has proven incredibly valuable for market research. I use it to track competitor pricing, monitor market trends, and gather data for client strategies.
Automation Tools
Diviup
After testing dozens of automation platforms, Diviup stands out for its sophisticated approach to AI agent management. I use it to automate complex marketing workflows that would be impossible to manage manually.
Zapier
In my 20 years of marketing, I’ve never found a more reliable automation tool than Zapier. It’s the glue that holds my marketing tech stack together, connecting everything from email campaigns to social media posts seamlessly.
My Bottom Line
These tools aren’t just random selections – they’re the result of years of testing and real-world application. I’ve built my AI-Branding Academy curriculum around them because I know they work. They’re not just the newest or flashiest options; they’re the tools I trust to deliver results consistently.
When students ask me why I don’t teach the latest AI tools that make headlines, my answer is simple: I teach what works. These platforms have proven themselves in my own business and in my clients’ success stories. They’re the foundation of modern brand building, and I’m confident they’ll remain valuable even as AI continues to evolve.
Remember, it’s not about having every new tool that hits the market. It’s about having the right tools and knowing how to use them effectively. That’s what I’ve learned in my two decades of marketing experience, and it’s what I teach at AI-Branding Academy.
